Christians today face a variety of teachings on the Word of God. Frequently, this teaching consists of attempting to cast doubt on the authority and truthfulness of God’s Word. When a person first gets saved, it is extremely easy to convince him the bible is the Word of God and that it is inerrant, or perfect. This makes perfect sense as it was this same Word of God that showed him his need of salvation and the steps needed to be saved. If it were not trustworthy, how could he be sure he was truly saved?
However, in the days, months and years to come a person will have that simple faith in the Bible challenged. Atheist teachers in school and college will attempt to tear down the book using a variety of topics and sounding intellectual. While this is to be expected from a lost person, the young person may put their guard up against claims by these people.
Sadly, a young student going to a Christian school or university will not fare much better. It is not at all uncommon for so-called bible scholars to tear down a person’s faith in the bible with phrases such as “a better translation is” or “in the originals it says..”
The reality is this kind of language is completely foreign to the Apostles and other characters in the bible. Instead they proclaim with boldness and confidence “thus saith the Lord.” Let’s take a look at these Scripture verses below in order to get a grasp of the trustworthiness and truthfulness of the Word of God.
And the Words of the Lord are flawless, like silver purified in a crucible, like gold refined seven times. You, Lord, will keep the needy safe and will protect us forever from the wicked (Psalm 12:6-7).
The reason for this confidence mentioned above can be found in (Psalm 12:6-7). It states in no uncertain terms that first of all the Words of the Lord are pure Words. Notice it did not say the Word of God in some general sense, it uses the plural “words.” This means exactly what it says rather than a reference to some general truth. It then goes on to say that these “Words” will be preserved forever.
In other words, it doesn’t matter what time we live in history, there will always be a copy of the “words” of God for us to have access to. When you hear some bible teacher attempt to destroy your confidence that you can’t trust your Bible regarding the actual words it contains, take heart. God has said He will preserve His Words and you will be able to get a hold of them. Because of this promise, you can trust your Bible, knowing that it is not just the message that is preserved, but the actual Words itself.
The most important aspects of the Word of God is the undeniable fact that the Holy Spirit who is its Author stands firmly behind it. And on top of that He does His mighty works through it in order to transform and bring people to Christ. The most encouraging Scripture about the reliability, trustworthiness, and steadfastness of the Word of God is found in (Jeremiah 1:1), through which God Himself states that “I am watching to see that my Word is fulfilled.”
