As you already know nothing good or valuable in this life comes easy as a matter of life’s principle. No matter what you would like to achieve in this life will always come with a lot of difficulties, headaches, challenges, and sacrifices. Most importantly, you cannot just wish anything you would like to accomplish into existence, so you have to be willing to exert a certain amount of effort in order to make it happen.
Well, it is precisely the same thing as the Christian life that we must live if we want to please our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. In all honesty, living a victorious life in Christ is not dependent on us because we are incapable of doing that due to our human weaknesses associated with our fallen nature. It’s all about what God is able and willing to do through us by His Spirit. However, that alone doesn’t eliminate our personal responsibilities toward God.
As humans, God has given us certain responsibilities that we must assume if we don’t want to get into serious trouble. We’re responsible to respond to God’s call and purpose for our lives obediently, patiently, and diligently. Since by grace God has already provided anything we would have ever needed through Jesus Christ; in other words, everything is just sitting there waiting for us. The power of God which flows through grace is at our disposal.
However, the only thing that will activate these things is our responsibility to respond to God by exercising faith in Him alone according to what’s written in His Word (Romans 10:17). To put it within perspective, God has already made the first move, so the next move must be done by us.
Why We Should Spend Time in the Word of God.
(Hosea 4:6) states that God’s people are destroyed because of lack of knowledge. It is clear through that passage what God is trying to tell us is when we don’t have a proper knowledge or a true understanding of His Word; we will have to suffer the consequences as a result. God doesn’t penalize people as a result of lack of knowledge, but they will miss out greatly on the transformative power hidden in His Word.
That’s why it’s crucial for us as believer to spend quality amount of time getting deeper and deeper into His word, so that we can know Him better, know His ways, grow spiritually, become mature in the faith, and be fruitful in every good work. Keep that in mind, God does not reveal Himself anywhere else other than in His Word. As a result, it’s imperative that we allow the Word of God to influence every aspect of our lives. On top of that, the truths of the Word of God must dominate our lives as His children, so that real transformation can be brought forth.
If we want to have a genuine understanding of the Word of God, so that we are able to apply it properly and let it take deep root in us, then that’s where complete reliance on the Spirit of God is essential. In fact, it’s also our responsibility as believer in Christ to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit moment by moment.
He is Our helper, teacher, senior partner, comforter, and constant companion. He is the author of the Word of God, and He carries out His mighty works through that same Word in order to transform us to become more and more like Christ. Isn’t that great for us as believer to learn vital instructions from the greatest teacher we have ever known or heard of?
The Word of God Has to Occupy First Place in Our Lives.
As God’s children we must understand the importance of the Word of God, and which priority it must have in our lives. The Word of God is God Himself speaking to us regarding how we can please Him, serve Him, and do His will on this earth. The Word of God is symbolic of a mirror that we can look at and find out how sinful we are in the eyes of a holy and righteous God. Moreover, the Word of God is the very thing that will determine where we will spend our eternity. Our eternity is based on either honoring or dishonoring that Word. Above all, everyone will be judged according to what is written within.
We should not look at scripture as just a handful of papers with texts on them because God’s power to save, restore, deliver, heal, and bless abides in that Word. The Word it’s the vehicle the Spirit of God uses in order to operate miracles. In short, apart from the Word, there is no salvation and hope for mankind.
The Word of God is also like a mirror through which the picture of God and the key attributes that consist His very being are reflected on. Through the Word, we learn that He is loving, merciful, compassionate, caring, gracious, and faithful God. But at the same time, we learn that He will not allow unrepentant sinners to go unpunished because of His righteousness.
The Key Characteristics Found in The Word.
For the Word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. (Hebrews 4:12)
Your Word, Lord, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens. (Psalm 119:89)
Then the LORD said to me, “You have seen well, for I am watching over my Word to perform it.” (Jeremiah 1:12)
These are the key attributes that completely differentiate the Word of God from any other books ever written. Within that Word, you have another person who is just like God, the Holy Spirit activating the Word and using it in order to bring people to Christ in such a powerful manner. He transforms people’s life, empowers God’s people in a wide variety of ways, so that they are able to carry out whatever tasks they have been entrusted with by God, and so forth.
Besides, the Word of God is eternal which means that whenever the Word is being proclaimed its impact on people’s lives is eternal whether they are saved or not. In addition, God will hold people accountable based on what they have known and heard of from that Word. Consequently, the more you know, the more accountable you’ll be held. The more you know, the more the responsibility to act accordingly will fall on your back. Consequently, the more condemned you should feel on the inside, if you’re not applying what you’ve already known.
