Jesus, And The Holy Ghost Are Yahweh

Must Know Bible Basics /

One of the key claims of the so-called Jehovah’s Witnesses is that there is only one God and that Jesus is essentially a lesser god. When it comes to the Holy Ghost or Holy Spirit, they believe that He is God’s power in action, His active force while it’s unmistakably clear in the Word of God that He is a divine being with an intellect, will, and emotion. They also teach that Jesus is god in the sense that He was the first thing God the father created.

That kind of confusion around both the person of Christ and the Holy Spirit shouldn’t take us by surprise due to the fact false doctrines have always been running rampant all throughout the history of humanity.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God (John 1:1).

But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back for yourself part of the proceeds of the land? While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own? And after it was sold, was it not at your disposal? Why is it that you have contrived this deed in your heart? You have not lied to men but to God. (Acts 5:3-4).

Many who deny the Godhead, or what we call the trinity, erroneously claim that (1 John 5:7) is the only verse that teaches a trinity and that there are far more verses that teach there is only one God. This statement is only true insomuch as there is no other verses that states the trinity as direct as (1 John 5:7), but there are scores of verses that teach on the trinity.

Consider (Acts 5:3), The passage refers to a couple who sold a piece of land and lied about how much they sold it for. The reason for the lie was another member of the church at Jerusalem sold a piece of land and gave the entire amount to the church. After selling the land, Ananias and Sapphira could have given any amount they chose or nothing at all. However, for some reason they wanted people to think they were giving sacrificially just as much as Barnabas did so they lied about how much the property was sold for.

Peter said “why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost?” He then went on to say that “thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.” Thus we see here a very clear statement that the Holy Ghost is God.

Regarding Jesus, (John 1:1) is extremely direct and says in no uncertain terms that Jesus is God. If that verse were not enough, (1 Timothy 3:16) says “God was manifest in the flesh.”

Of course, verses showing the Father is God are too plenteous to mention. However, we will offer up one verse to suffice.

To keep this command without spot or blame until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, which God will bring about in His own time—God, the blessed and only Ruler, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone is immortal and who lives in unapproachable light, whom no one has seen or can see. To Him be honor and might forever. Amen (1 Timothy 6:14-16).

Notice the verse references Christ’s return, but goes on to say that Christ dwells in the light which no man can approach unto. Now who are what is this light? It goes on to say “whom” which is a reference to a living entity; then it says “whom no one has seen or can see.”

People have seen Jesus, and we will see Him as He is one day. (1 John 1:5) identifies this light saying, “God is light.” Thus we see that the Father is also God.

In short, those who claim the trinity is a doctrine only resting on one verse are either willfully ignorant or deliberately deceptive. The trinity is a very clear doctrine in the Word of God.
