Only Jesus Christ Can Fill Us Up

Must Know Bible Basics /

God has made us for the sole purpose of totally depending on Him, serving Him, having an intimate relationship with Him, doing His will, and lastly for His own glory. Our entire physical being is consisted of a non-life material called the dust of the ground. As mentioned in this post, what you really have when God has breathed the breath of life into man according to the account of (Genesis 2:7) is a marvelous and powerful transformation that occurred. The dust of the ground was instantly converted into flesh, blood, and bones. Man then became a living being fully equipped with God-given potentials.

Then you have two other critical elements that also make up men: the soul and the spirit implanted into men by God at that very moment to enable men to fulfill God’s purpose and be who He wants them to be. Most importantly, we’re made in the image of the Almighty God (Genesis 1:26). This truly differentiates us completely from the animals because we’re made in such a unique fashion that enables us to operate far above the animals due to the many capabilities that our Maker has placed into us.

In that case, there is no question about the fact that our life comes from God. However, since we’re made to depend on God; therefore, the only way that our life can be sustained and maintained is through a genuine relationship with our Maker. Besides, we have to be connected continuously with God. Our Maker has also placed an intrinsic desire within us to seek after Him.

Unfortunately, it’s quite evident that this desire is often misdirected to temporal things as a result of sins, which literally create all kinds of confusions in people’s lives. The truth is that before men had fallen into sin, they used to enjoy a strong fellowship with God in the Garden of Eden. It all ended when the couple has chosen to rebel against God (Genesis 3:6). This sin has severed completely that relationship. Consequently, this then creates a huge gaping hole in men’s soul.

To put that within perspective, the connection men had with God was like a critical element from Him that was welded firmly right into men’s soul for the purpose of guiding them, serving them as an anchor, and feeding them spiritually. Thus, when men have sinned against God, it literally rips off completely the area this very element was attached to by leaving an eternal void.

Men then find themselves into such a desperate situation trying to fill up that void all on their own. By the way, that connection was meant to be eternal, so the impact or the penalty of that disconnection is also eternal, which means that this connection can only be restored by the same eternal person that men are alienated and separated from. Praise and glory be to God because He had already had a plan to bring men back to Him through His Son Jesus Christ before their fall.

Jesus Christ is the Only Solution.

But whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life (John 4:14).

Jesus told them, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never become hungry, and whoever believes in me will never become thirsty (John 6:35).

This eternal hole can’t be filled by any worldly things other than Christ Himself. Men do possess a tendency to indulge into sinful activities and pursue wholeheartedly worldly things in order to satisfy the insatiate desires found in themselves, but it makes them even worse. Things like sexual immorality, drugs, alcohol, pornography, money, fame, wealth, witchcraft, and so forth will dig that hole even deeper and deeper. Instead of being satiated people normally crave for more and more of the same things they’ve been desperately chasing all along.

This ultimately leads to addiction, bondage, confusion, misery, a false sense of security and hope about the future, and ultimately to destruction. People give in to sinful activities with the intent of chasing some kind of gratification that cannot even be found. All they can find is just a temporary pleasure, then they have to keep going back again into the same things until they are trapped.

People have become more hopelessly enslaved into sin than they can even realize. Consequently, there is no joy, peace, and lasting satisfaction. Moreover, those who depend completely on their wealth; in other words, those who consider their money as their god and protector are the exact ones who are more prone to commit suicide when something goes wrong.

However, when Christ comes into our lives, He brings eternal life, blessings, peace, joy, lasting satisfaction, restoration, and so on. According to (John 14:27), His peace is not like the one that the world gives, which is highly futile and volatile. He gives the peace of mind and heart. Therefore, if we choose to rely heavily on His promises there is no reason for us to let life’s circumstances to completely carry us away or drive us desperate as unsaved people who have no hope.

We may be struggling in some areas in our lives, but the hope that we have in Him is sufficient to sustain us in everything we’re going through. Because we’re so satiated with His presence, it enables us not only to depend on Him more and more but to look beyond life’s obstacles with a brand new perspective that God will take care of us no matter what.
