The Role Of The Holy Spirit In Bringing Sinners To Christ

Must Know Bible Basics /

The key message that is so prevalent in the New Testament all throughout the four Gospel books is about the Kingdom of God. It’s a kingdom that Jesus had a lot to say about; therefore, He gave quite a number of parables in order to illustrate further how the kingdom operates and how people can enter it. In fact, each member of the Godhead plays a critical role in that kingdom.

Let us put that in perspective, for instance, God the Father is the very embodiment of the kingdom; in other words, He owns it. Jesus Christ is the way, the truth, and the door that people can enter it. Moreover, the Holy Spirit is the One out there promoting the kingdom to sinner and bringing them to Christ by the truth, which Jesus represents.

The Holy Spirit Comes From The Father.

And when He comes, He will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment: concerning sin, because they do not believe in me.  (John 16:8-9)

The Holy Spirit is proceeded from God the Father; He is entrusted by God with a critical mission just as Christ was. The Holy Spirit is commissioned to carry out a multitude of works in the life of the believers as well as sinners. Bear in mind, He does not indwell sinners, unlike believers. However, He leads them to Christ by using His three major functions that will be covered later in that post. Therefore, the primary role of the Holy Spirit is to reveal and glorify Jesus.

When Christ was promising the Holy Spirit to His disciples, He told them the Holy Spirit will bring a fierce conviction upon the world when He comes because of its sins. According to (John 16:9), the sin of the world is that they refuse to believe in Him. The truth is that sin not only hardens men’s heart, but it also blinds them towards the truth. Rejecting Christ or refusing to believe in Him is the main sin that the world is guilty of.

Moreover, Christ also said in (John 16:13-14) “When the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all the truth, for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak, and He will declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify me, for He will take what is mine and declare it to you.”

As Christian, without the Holy Spirit we would not have been able to know and confess Christ as Lord and Savior. We would not have been able to understand the word of God. We would not have been where we are today, and no one can be saved without the the Holy Spirit being involved in the process of salvation.

“Therefore, I want you to understand that no one speaking in the Spirit of God ever says “Jesus is accursed!” and no one can say “Jesus is Lord” except in the Holy Spirit.” (1 Corinthians 12:3) This passage of Scripture clearly demonstrates that the Holy Spirit by the Word of God in which He operates reveals everything that we know about Christ to us. By the way, it is one thing to read the Word; however, it is something entirely different to read it with a disposition to let the Spirit of God to drive the truth deep into our hearts because that’s what will surely bring forth true transformation in our lives.

The Three Functions of The Holy Spirit When Leading Sinners to Christ.

In the light of the role of the Holy Spirit when it comes down to driving people to Christ, it all can be summed up to these three major functions: convicting the world of its sin, of God’s righteousness, and of the coming judgment. In order for the message of the Gospel to make sense to sinners, they have to be able to realize that there is something that they have to be saved from which is their sins. Everyone who has come to Christ did so under the conviction that the Spirits of God has brought upon them.

He makes it plain to us that we are wretched sinner in the eyes of a holy God, there is absolutely nothing we can do to earn His acceptance in our human ability, and we are on our way to hell and deserve every bit of it. Finally, He points us to Christ who is waiting for us to come to Him with open arms. For this reason, anyone who is saved is a clear evidence of the Spirit of God at work.

On the other hand, sinners have also a critical responsibility they must take after being convicted of their sins. In other words, they have a highly critical decision they have to make which will determine where they will spend their eternity. So it is imperative for people to always make sure that they respond the right way by coming to Christ in order to escape God’s wrath that will be poured out on unrepentant sinners.

God is faithful; He does not just leave us on our own after saving us from our sins. He sends us the same Spirit that leads us to salvation in order to indwell us, so that we are able to live the kind of fruitful, victorious, and successful life He desires us to live.

Many people tend to give that lame excuse when presented with the Gospel; they don’t think that they can live a holy life because they are not good enough. Well, nobody can ever be good enough as far as God’s holiness standard is concerned because you would have to be as perfect as God is. The Christian’s life is not your life; in other words, it’s not your battle but what God will do through you by His Spirit if you are just willing to let Him do so.

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. (Romans 10:9)

If you have never accepted Christ as your personal savior, so this is the right moment for you to do so. In fact, it’s time for you to stop running away from God. You need to stop rejecting His precious gift of salvation being offered to you in order to help you escape the coming judgment.

Christ loves you and is waiting to save you from your sin if you are willing to give Him a chance by accepting Him as your personal Savior. Perhaps, your heart might become so harden by your current lifestyle up to the extent that you may feel accepting Christ is not that necessary. The bottom line is that you can always live your life without Him, however you can’t die without Him.
